I have had the pleasure to work for the residents of Sherburne as Town Clerk and Registrar of Vital Statistics for 8 years as well as Tax Collector for 9 years.
The position of Town Clerk and Registrar encompass detailed and varied duties for the town. This includes keeping permanent records of all births, deaths and marriages that occur within the town and village as well as being well versed in the laws pertaining to these records. The Town Clerk acts as a recording secretary for the town who keeps a permanent record of all town board meetings and public hearings. The Town Clerk acts as custodian of all the town records and maintains a record of adopted ordinances and local laws, oaths of office, resignations, proofs of publication and posting, annual budgets, assessment rolls and fiscal reports.
The Town Clerk position incorporates the office of tax collector for the town/county taxes. This position requires working with tax software programs both in the office and through NBT Bank, working daily with the bank during tax collection, sending out of the taxes and escrows, correcting tax statements, apportionments, compiling unpaid taxes, monthly fiscal reports to the county and end of year tax summaries and return of taxes to the county.
Being a paralegal with over 30 years of experience in the legal field has proven helpful in my position. I successfully wrote two state grants for the Town of Sherburne – one for an archival records grant and the second for the historic park building and interior equipment. It has also been my pleasure to serve on the County Republican Committee for 10 years as well as being secretary of the Chenango County Town Clerk’s Association for five years.
My mentor, John McDaniel, was Town Clerk of Sherburne for over 50 years. My grandfather, Leland Adsit, was Town Justice for 27 years and my uncle, Hoyt Adsit, was Assessor.
Growing up in Sherburne and raising my family here I am familiar with the town, its workings and many residents. There is a strong connection with this town and the well-knit community.
I am extremely grateful to hold the position as Town Clerk for the Town of Sherburne and would like to thank you for your continued support. Please vote for me at the Republican Primary on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the American Legion in Sherburne from 12 noon to 9 pm. Thank you.
